Andover Newton Theological School is established.
1807
[1825] Originally the Newton Theological School, it is founded at a meeting of the First Baptist Church in Boston. The first theological school in the U.S., its creation is a reaction to growing Unitarian tendencies at Harvard and its establishment of a separate divinity school at Phillips Academy in Andover. The school subsequently relocates to Cambridge and forms a relationship with Harvard. It moves to Newton and merges with the Newton Theological institution in 1965, then moves to New Haven to become Andover Newton at Yale in 2018.
